NOVA Engineering is hiring an Arborist in the north Atlanta, GA area. The Arborist is responsible for overseeing the preservation, maintenance, and enhancement of Dunwoody’s urban forest. This includes managing tree inventories, reviewing tree removal permits, enforcing tree preservation ordinances, and advising on best practices for tree health and sustainability across public and private properties.

Responsibilities:

  • Administer and enforce the City’s Tree Preservation Ordinance.
  • Review and approve tree removal permits for residential, commercial, and public properties.
  • Conduct site inspections to assess tree health, density compliance, and stream buffer impacts.
  • Maintain and update the city’s Tree Inventory and Assessment database.
  • Provide guidance on tree replacement plans and density requirements for new developments.
  • Collaborate with planning and zoning staff during land development reviews.
  • Respond to inquiries and complaints related to tree health, removal, and ordinance violations.
  • Educate the public and city staff on tree care, urban forestry, and environmental stewardship.
  • Coordinate emergency response for tree damage due to storms or natural disasters.
  • Develop and implement long-term urban forest management strategies

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Arboriculture, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • ISA Certified Arborist (required).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in urban forestry or municipal arboriculture.
  • Knowledge of Georgia tree species, soil conditions, and environmental regulations.
  • Familiarity with GIS mapping tools and aerial imagery for tree canopy analysis.
  • Strong communication and public engagement skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply municipal codes and environmental ordinances.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with tree risk assessment and mitigation planning.
  • Proficiency in preparing site plans and tree surveys.
  • Understanding of stream buffer regulations and ecological preservation.
