Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Trauma Program Manager, the Trauma Educator, in collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Program Manager: Coordinates and evaluates trauma education to nursing staff, including new nursing staff caring for trauma patients. Works as a team member with the TMD, the TPM, and the trauma team to support’s the trauma programs and organization’s strategic plans to meet the hospital’s accreditation and regulatory reporting requirements.
Job Description
1. PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE
a. In collaboration with the Nursing Leader in area of practice and Executive Director of Education, Training and Leadership Development oversees and monitors the effectiveness of care at the unit level.
4 - Trauma Program Responsibility
a - Works in collaboration with members of the trauma program, physicians, departments managers, and administration at SSH to achieve hospital goals
b - Maintains knowledgeable of ACS Trauma Center Criteria
c - Collaborates with the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Program Manager to achieve the clinical criteria and administrative activities necessary, to ensure successful verification by the American College of Surgeons for Level II Trauma Center Designation
d - Assists in preparation and participates in the American College of Surgeons site visits
e - Assists and participates in the Trauma Program Operational Process. May include preparing, minutes, reporting, and follow-up
f - Works with the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Program Manager to further develop and advance the trauma program.
g - Assists with trauma program administrative tasks as needed and requested
h - Assists in the development of hospital and trauma policies, procedures, guidelines, processes and order sets specific to trauma practice and care
5. TECHNOLOGY
a. Demonstrates proficiency in the use of the EHR and other business applications used in clinical areas.
Strong clinical experience in trauma nursing required, three years to five years clinical nursing experience in trauma care, critical care, or emergency department
TNCC required
TNCC Instructor/Director certification to be obtained within 12 months of hire
Familiar with TCAR course
Experience with data bases and Excel required
Experience in developing, operationalizing, and evaluating the effectiveness of educational programs preferred
Teaching experience or instructor status preferred
Demonstrated leadership and communication skills. Commitment to adult learner education as a methodology for promoting continuous quality improvement in the delivery of patient care and services.
