Job Description

Clinical Research Coordinator

Dr. Rob Naismith, Professor of Neurology, directs a clinical research team of over 10 research coordinators and a research nurse. MS faculty include Drs. Anne Cross, Rob Naismith, Greg Wu, Salim Chahin, Matt Brier, and Kimystian (Mysti) Harrison, all who are involved in both clinical care and research. The MS clinical staff includes a nurse practitioner, two nurses, a medical assistant, administrative coordinator, and pre-authorization specialist. Our clinical research program includes dozens of studies sponsored through the NIH, Department of Defense, National MS Society, and various pharmaceutical companies. Our comprehensive program studies the most relevant and greatest unmet needs. This includes basic lab research, biomarkers, imaging, clinical repositories, clinical trials, and international consortiums. Key research includes causes of MS, diagnosis, prognostication, therapies, imaging, clinical outcomes, and socioeconomic factors. This position focuses on industry-sponsored clinical trials.

This role will assist investigators as coordinator of a basic to moderately complex clinical research study; may be responsible for multiple research studies simultaneously, acting as a liaison with the school, sponsoring agency, community and the study participants; responsible for managing and recording all phases of study protocol as required by the sponsoring agency to ensure compliance.

Primary duties and responsibilities include:

  • Implementing and managing all phases of study/protocol; ensuring compliance with protocol guidelines and requirements of regulatory agencies; establishing record-keeping systems; making assessments and determinations of participants' progress in the study; analyzing, investigating and reporting adverse events; making decisions as to when to notify physicians of issues, when to stop participant inclusion and/or to make and/or recommend adjustment of the protocol of particular participants; resolving protocol management issues and recommending corrective action as appropriate; serving as liaison with funding or sponsoring agency.
  • Recruiting and enrolling study participants; making and/or participating in making determinations of eligibility based on diagnostic criteria and/or observations in participant interviews; developing informed consent packets for study participants and conferring with participants to explain purpose of study and obtain completed informed consent packets; explaining diagnostic procedures and treatment plans to address participant/family concerns; administering/scoring tests and/or evaluating all lab and clinical assessments to ensure they are completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring timely completion of all protocol requirements (assessment, lab testing, procedures and treatments), to include scheduling and facilitating the patient's timely completion of protocol requirements; evaluating and interpreting collected clinical data as appropriate; preparing oral or written presentations or reports and analyses setting forth progress trends and providing recommendations or conclusions of the same.
  • Collecting clinical data under clinical research protocols.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree or combination of education and/or experience may substitute for minimum education.
  • Basic Life Support certification (Online Basic Life Support certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the Basic Life Support requirements). Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within one month of hire date.

Salary range: $47,400.00 - $71,200.00 / Annually.
