Position Summary:
The Real Estate Loan Underwriter serves as a Centralized Lending Officer for mortgage loan decisions. The Mortgage Loan Underwriter's responsibilities include analyzing mortgage loan applications, evaluating risks and approving or denying mortgage loans. Loans must be within established limits and within company policy and guidelines. Exercise sound judgment based on a detailed analysis and ensure documentation complies with relevant regulations. Stay informed of mortgage market, trends and regulations.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
40% Make timely decision to approve, deny, or refer loans for decision. Documents and effectively communicates reasons for approval or denial. Analyzes member financial conditions, credit profile and equity position of the home to determine the degree of risk involved in extending credit or lending money.
20% Reviews all loan applications for completeness and accuracy. Request additional information as needed to. Evaluates the applicant’s needs and make recommendation or other financing options.
20% Verify and calculate income documentation, verify that the DTI and CLTV ratios are within policy. Ensures the accuracy and validly of the document provided. Confirms member qualification for the amount approved and specifies loan stipulations as needed.
15% Participates in sales development activities to identify and cross sell other credit union products.
4% Assists with Consumer Underwriting and Real Estate duties as needed.
1% Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills:
One to two years of Real Estate underwriting or related experience.
Education 1) A two-year college degree, or 2) Completion of a specialized certification or licensing, or 3) Completion of specialized training.

Must possess excellent decision-making skills
Ability to work with minimal to no Supervision
Detailed oriented with strong data analysis skills
Highly motivated to improve member profitability
Other Skills
MLO license required with NMLS Federal Registry.
Highly motivated to improve member profitability.
Must be detail oriented.
Maintains high service levels to auto dealers participating in the indirect lending program.
Ability to work Weekends ( Saturday and Sunday).
Ability to work with minimal to no Supervision ( weekends).
Must possess excellent decision skills, be proactive, possess quality and productivity skills, be solution-oriented and have the ability to work in an environment of flexible and changing work policies/procedures and hours.
