📍 Location: Quincy, IL
📍 Unit: Med Surg/Tele – Surgical (3rd Floor)
📍 Shift: 3x12s, Nights (7 PM – 7 AM)

 

🔍 Job Summary

• Total Beds: 48 (across two buildings)
• RN:Patient Ratios:
  • Days: 1:4–6
  • Nights: 1:5–6
• Support: LPNs, CNAs (CNAs may be pulled for sitter duty), virtual admission/discharge nurse support
• Nursing Model: Primary care nursing used frequently — must be comfortable with it

✅ Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum: 1 year of surgical Med-Surg RN experience
• Required Certifications:
  • BLS
  • NIHSS
• Preferred Skills:
  • Total joint experience
  • PCA pumps, narcotic usage, and reversal drugs (Narcan)
  • Sepsis management
  • TPN and Lipid infusion experience

💉 Patient Population & Common Cases

• Neuro: Laminectomy, cervical fusion, LESI
• Surgical: Ostomies, hernia repairs, belly surgeries
• Ortho: Total hips/knees
• Vascular: Fem-pop bypass, BKA, AKA
• Other: Dialysis access, chronic pain, sepsis, IV antibiotics

🖥️ Monitoring & Equipment

• Telemetry Monitoring: Draeger system
• Monitor Techs Available: Yes
• RNs Must Interpret Own Strips: Yes
• Drips: Heparin (titrated per protocol)

🩺 Staffing Details

• Charge RN:
  • Day shift: typically core staff
  • Night shift: sometimes house supervisor with smaller patient load
• RT Support:
  • CPAP, BiPAP (sometimes stays on unit), Airvo
  • No vents – RT manages equipment

📅 Scheduling

• Shift Start: 7 AM or 7 PM
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Sat/Sun)
• Holiday Rotation: Shared with core staff
• Scheduling:
  • No guaranteed block
  • Discuss special requests with leadership
  • Schedule posted 6 weeks out
• Call: None
• Floating: To similar units only. If floated to higher acuity unit, you will not take a full patient load
