As a Natural Resource Specialist 2 - Wildlife Research Biologist in Adair Village, Corvallis, you will assist the Western Oregon Wildlife Research Supervisor in the design, implementation, and completion of research related to management and conservation of western Oregon's wildlife. Findings from our research are transferred to wildlife and habitat managers in ODFW and partner agencies (e.g., US Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management). This position helps to oversee and implement research related, but not limited to, wildlife monitoring and demographic modeling, ungulate nutrition, and predator ecology. Duties include:
  • Coordinating with collaborating biologists, GIS specialists, and statisticians to prepare and analyze data collected as part of ongoing or past research
  • Collect data on wildlife or habitat in the field (may require hiking across steep and uneven terrain, carrying heavy loads, use of ATVs, snowmobiles, and 4-wd trucks)
  • Compile information and data related to research projects, including literature reviews, biological, and geospatial data
  • Summarize and analyze data using geographic and statistical software (e.g., R, ArcPro) and programming languages (e.g., R, python, Julia)
  • Interpret data and write manuscripts suitable for publication in peer-reviewed journals
  • Present results and public and professional meetings.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Minimum Qualifications

Option 1: Two years of biological experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program that included one year of at least two of the following : gathering data, analyzing data, or preparing reports, AND a Bachelor's degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science, or a closely related Bachelor's degree with at least 45 quarter (30 semester) hours of biological/ecological coursework; OR three additional years of biological experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program;

- OR-

Option 2: One year biological experience performing studies, research, or resource management activities in a fish or wildlife program that included at least two of the following: gathering data, analyzing data, or preparing reports, AND a Master's degree Fisheries or Wildlife Science, or a closely related Master's degree in biological/ecological sciences;

- OR-

Option 3: A Doctorate degree in Fisheries or Wildlife Science, or a closely related Doctorate degree in biological/ecological sciences.

Note: Applicants who have obtained a Master's degree or Doctorate that included work experience from an internship, work/study, thesis, or similar program may list this experience in their application to receive credit for the work experience. The Master's degree/Doctorate and applicable work experience will be considered separately, and both the education and applicable experience may count toward minimum qualifications.
