A Day in the Life: What You Will Do As a DSP, you are the heart of our mission: empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). You will gain direct, hands‑on experience in high‑value skills that will set you apart in your field: Patient Care & Support: Provide respectful, hands‑on assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), personal care, grooming, and mobility. Healthcare Skills: Gain experience in medication administration, monitoring physical and mental health needs, and preparing nutritious meals. Case Management & Advocacy: Serve as a patient advocate and participate in the development and implementation of Individualized Support Plans (ISPs). Clinical Documentation: Complete all necessary documentation of care, service provision, and medication logs—a critical skill in all healthcare fields. Behavioral Support: Learn to implement positive behavior supports, follow person‑centered support plans, and use de‑escalation strategies.
